Saudi Water Authority​

Water security is one of the most critical priorities addressed by national policies, aiming to safeguard it against future challenges arising from today’s rapidly changing world.Under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques — may God protect him — and through Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom has placed water security at the heart of its strategic priorities, recognizing it as an integral part of national security. This commitment is reflected in the establishment of clear indicators and measurable targets within appropriate frameworks designed to ensure the protection, sustainability, and safe and potable water for future generations. In this context, the Authority plays a leading role in strengthening the Kingdom’s water security through regulatory oversight and supervision, sustainable water management, service quality enhancement, capacity building and economic growth, as well as the promotion of innovation, technology, and environmental protection — all while remaining fully committed to its transitional responsibilities during the national transformation phase.

Saudi Water Authority Programs for Vision 2030

The Saudi Water Authority aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 in several key areas:

National Transformation Program

National Transformation Program

The Authority contributes through water security management and integrated infrastructure planning for water supply systems to ensure the sustainability of water resources and improve water demand management efficiency. The Authority also supports digital transformation through the management and automation of water system data. As part of this contribution, the production capacity of the water system has exceeded 16.14 million m³ per day. Transmission systems have also been developed, reaching 18.5 thousand km in length, while network and pipeline transmission capacity has increased to 17.2 million m³ per day. In addition, water storage capacity has been expanded to exceed 30 million m³, networked water services have expanded to reach 84.4%, and the time required to deliver water services has improved by 24%.

National Industrial Development and Logistics Program

The Authority supports economic development by enabling local content in the water sector, offering opportunities, localizing the water industry, supporting the development of advanced wastewater treatment technologies, and increasing the reuse of treated water for industrial purposes to meet the needs of economic zones and industrial cities. In support of this role, the Authority contributed to increasing the local content rate to 66.1%, with total local spending of SAR 23.4 billion and initiatives with a total cost of up to SAR 36 billion. The licensed capacity of wastewater treatment plants for the public and private sectors has also increased to more than 7.81 million m³ per day, supporting the reuse of treated water for industrial purposes.

Human Capability Development Program

The Authority contributes by providing specialized training programs and professional certifications to develop national talent in the water sector, meet current and future labor market needs, and promote innovation and scientific research in water resources management. In this context, the Authority has strengthened its role in building national capabilities through the Water Academy, which provided training services to more than 15,000 male and female trainees through specialized training programs and professional certifications that contribute to qualifying national talent specialized in the water sector.

The Authority works to improve quality of life by controlling water quality, monitoring compliance and Commitment, improving the efficiency of water and wastewater services, ensuring the sustainability of water supplies, and improving the local environment and public health through monitoring compliance with operational and environmental standards. This contribution is reflected in the Authority’s continued efforts to enhance the reliability of services provided to beneficiaries, improve the efficiency of water and wastewater services, and support the sustainability of water supplies, contributing to the improvement of the local environment and public health.

Health Sector Transformation Program

Health Sector Transformation Program

The Authority supports the efforts of the health sector by providing clean and healthy water to hospitals and healthcare facilities. It also works to develop technologies for treating wastewater in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, contributing to the protection of public health. In continuation of this role, the Authority contributes to enhancing the reliability of water services for healthcare facilities and supporting safe wastewater treatment solutions, thereby improving the quality of water-related services and supporting the protection of public health.

Pilgrim Experience Program

Pilgrim Experience Program

By ensuring water quality and meeting the water needs of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the Hajj season, the Authority contributes to enriching the experience of pilgrims and ensuring their comfort and safety. To enhance the readiness of the water system during the 1446 AH Hajj season, the Authority provided daily desalinated water production capacity exceeding 1.2 million m³ per day and pumped more than 10 million m³ of water through main networks extending 1,316 km. In addition, more than 6,500 field monitoring rounds were conducted to ensure service quality and supply continuity throughout the season.
