The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) announced that the “Water Innovation Oasis” in Rabigh has begun operations as the world’s largest integrated system for water innovation. It brings together scientific research, experimentation and application in one location, accelerating the transformation of research outputs into implementable industrial and commercial solutions.

SWA explained that the oasis includes more than 23 specialized laboratories, in addition to pilot stations and platforms for testing technologies related to water production, transmission, distribution and reuse. It also incorporates artificial intelligence applications in the operation and management of water systems.

SWA noted that the oasis’s outputs contribute to narrowing the gap between research and application and support the conversion of developed technologies into scalable industrial and commercial solutions that serve the needs of the water sector in countries around the world.

SWA confirmed that the oasis adopts sustainable operational solutions, with reliance on clean energy reaching 41% and the use of natural lighting accounting for 90%. This contributes to reducing carbon emissions by more than 284 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

SWA also added that the work of the oasis is aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in supporting the knowledge economy, enhancing quality of life and developing sustainable solutions for the water sector.

It is worth noting that the Water Innovation Oasis has been recorded in the Guinness World Records as the largest water oasis in the world.
