A Saudi Chinese partnership to develop water technologies and innovate sustainable solutions to environmental challenges

The Saudi Water Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with the Environmental Science Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China, with the aim of enhancing scientific and research cooperation and exchanging experiences in the fields of water technologies and innovation, in order to support joint efforts to develop sustainable solutions to address water challenges.

The memorandum comes as part of the Authority's strategy to build effective international partnerships with leading global research centers and scientific institutions, supporting the objectives of developing the water sector and enhancing the efficiency of its operational and environmental systems through the adoption of the latest technologies and innovations.


Areas of cooperation include the development of advanced membranes and materials used in water desalination, research into environmentally friendly water treatment technologies, the implementation of joint research projects, the exchange of researchers and experts, and the organization of training programs and capacity building.


The memorandum also includes studying the establishment of joint research platforms and laboratories, and developing technological solutions that contribute to reducing energy consumption and minimizing the environmental impact of water production and treatment processes, thereby enhancing the sustainability of water resources and improving the efficiency of the provided services.
