The water sector reviewed the latest developments in water projects within the Makkah Region during a meeting chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, at the Makkah Region Emirate headquarters in Jeddah. The meeting was attended by several princes, His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Abdulkarim, President of the Saudi Water Authority, and leaders from the water sector.

During the meeting, HRH was briefed on the strategy, ongoing development projects related to water services in the region, and future projects aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided.

The region currently has 432 approved water distribution projects, with a total budget exceeding SAR 44 billion. These include 265 water projects, 129 sanitation projects, and 38 projects for design, supervision, and consultancy.

The meeting featured a detailed explanation of the plans and initiatives implemented by the Saudi Water Authority in collaboration with its partners to improve water and environmental services in the region. Discussions addressed challenges facing the team and proposed solutions to achieve goals and enhance the water system. The efforts include utilizing natural water resources such as the region’s 71 dams, which have a total capacity of 863 million cubic meters, as well as development projects aimed at improving citizen services, achieving well-being, and enhancing quality of life in line with the aspirations of the Kingdom’s leadership.

During the meeting, the sector also presented key initiatives, including the Government, Schools, and Mosques Water Efficiency Program and the Government Consumption Reduction Initiative, which is being implemented across nine governorates in the region.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted development opportunities to improve infrastructure, execute a range of projects, and sign operational and supervisory contracts that adhere to approved specifications and standards. These efforts translate plans into tangible service projects that play a significant role in enhancing operational efficiency, improving performance, and expanding water network coverage across the governorates of the Makkah Region.
